Skin Rejuvenation Procedures

Reasons for Considering a Facial Rejuvenation:

  • Reduce facial wrinkles and lines.
  • Improve sun-damaged skin.
  • Correct age spots and pigmentation problems.
  • Lighten scars (especially from acne).

Facial rejuvenation procedures are very popular procedures performed by Dr. Dampier.  There are two major groups of patients who benefit tremendously from facial resurfacing procedures: aging patients with age spots and fine wrinkles and young adults with acne scars.  For patients with age spots, fine wrinkles, and irregular skin pigmentation, chemical peels are the mainstay of therapy.  For deeper lines and wrinkles (particularly around the mouth) and acne scars, dermabrasion is the preferred therapy.

Dermabrasion is a procedure used to correct facial scarring associated with acne as well as to smooth “rough” skin.  This procedure is also very effective in the aging population for correction of wrinkles/creases seen around the mouth and lips.  Dermabrasion uses a special tool to essentially “sand” the skin which decreases the depths of acne scarring and wrinkles.  Just like the chemical peel, the skin will be sensitive and weepy for seven to ten days. A "pinkish" complexion will remain for several weeks.

For this procedure, patients can begin wearing make-up within two weeks and return to working indoors as soon as they are comfortable.  It is critical that patients wear good sunscreen for six months after their procedure in order to prevent darkening of the new skin.  For this reason, Dr. Dampier also recommends that patients consider having these procedures during the winter months to minimize sun exposure while the skin is in its "remodeling" process.  After the healing process is complete, patients enjoy "glowing" skin which helps them to appear younger and simply radiant!
